Time for another WEBSITE WEDNESDAY post… 💥

…featuring another top tip for your business website.

No.17: Learn about your Sitemap.

Your business website’s ‘XML Sitemap’ can be extremely useful to you, so first of all, check you have one. Type /sitemap.xml or /sitemaps.xml in the address bar after your domain name. If you only see a 404 Page Not Found, ask your web host provider about creating your sitemap.

The sitemap will display all your web pages that are available to be ‘crawled’ by Google/Bing, together with their last modified dates. Look for any pages that are missing, and pay careful attention to any pages that haven’t been updated in a long while (see Website Wednesday #10).

Next, submit your sitemap via Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tool. This will prompt Google and Bing to regularly crawl your website, getting to know all about your services. It’s not difficult, but if you need help the first time, just ask. Within weeks, you should be receiving much higher website traffic.

(Note there are also commands you can type into Google to list all your Indexed pages, but more about that another time.)

Keep a lookout for a whole range of WEBSITE WEDNESDAY tips, all with the aim of attracting more site visitors and sales for your business. And if you’d like to propose a topic, just comment below.
